As a class capstone project a student is interesting in comparing the academic abilities of the incoming Freshman class. The ACT scores for a small sample of individuals for each gender and the raw data is listed below. NOTE - You will need to find the sample means for the two groups to complete problems 1 & 2. 2 3 M Male 21 25 22 26 23 26 Female 24 25 26 29 36 33 31 22 8 27 29 32 10 Mean 2.21 1. According to Truman's admission office last years Freshman had an average ACT of 27 with a standard deviation of 3 (u = 27.5 = 3) a. Using the traditional" cutoff method, test (a +0.05 ) to see if this year's male students have a different academic ability than last year's students. HIMET b. Calculate the P-value for the above statistic, state your rejection region and test to see if this year's male students have a different academic ability than last year's students. c. How does your conclusions for parts a & b compare? (do they agree? Are they different?)
