Consider various objects confined to a one-dimensional space which can be modeled as
an infinite quantum well. Consider three different objects: (1) A physics teacher (m=80kg)
in a small room with width 2m, (2) an electron in a linear molecule with length 1nm; (3) a
proton in an atomic nucleus of size 10fm (a) Calculate the minimum energy for each of
these cases. (b) Use Heisenberg uncertainty to estimate the uncertainty of kinetic energy
and apply this to each of the three objects. Compare the energies to the results of part
(a).
