An unreliable narrator is a first-person narrator whose tellingof the story is not completely accurate or credible due to problemswith the character's mental state (in the case of "Emergency,"drug-induced) or maturity. The term 'unreliable narrator' was firstused by Wayne C. Booth in 1961 in The Rhetoric of Fiction. Sincethen, many authors and filmmakers use the technique to createinterest and suspense in their narration.
