According to the same author, the increase in temperatures, changes in precipitation patterns, and reductions in water availability all result in reduced agricultural productivity. As a consequence, climate change disrupts food availability, reduces access to food, and affects food quality. For example, the productivity of rain-fed agriculture has fallen by up to 50% in some countries, potentially undermining their food security (Leblois & Quirion, 2020). The authors point out that the area of arid and semi-arid land has also increased by between 5% and 8% in recent years. This is a significant concern as it exposes 70% of the population dependent on such crops to serious food insecurity. The increase in the intensity and frequency of fires, storms or periods of drought due to global warming adds to the threat to biodiversity which has already been placed under stress by other human activities. .
