GYROSCOPIC EFFECT
QUESTION:
An aircraft taking off at a speed of450 km/hr while the engine
rotates 12,000 rpm
counter clockwise looking from the front-end. The rotary engine and
propeller of the plane has
a mass of 400 kg and a radius of gyration of 0.3 m. If each of the
bolts attaching the engine to
the wing can take 2 kN axial force and 2.5 kN shear force,
determine the following.
i. The gyroscopic couple and states its effects on the
aircraft.
ii. Smallest radius of curvature that the aircraft can climb,𝜌𝑐 and
turn,𝜌𝑇
