1. Describe in your own words the important features of homeostasis using the following terms in your explanation: negative feedback, internal environment, receptor, controller and effector. (10 marks)
2a. Provide a brief overview of the endocrine system, explaining briefly how it exerts an effect on its target cells. (5 marks)
2b. Provide a detailed overview of blood glucose homeostasis which is controlled by hormones. (10 marks)
3a. Provide a brief overview of the nervous system and its role in the maintenance of homeostasis. (5 marks)
3b. Provide a detailed overview of the nervous system’s response to maintaining homeostasis in the event of low blood pressure. (10 marks).
4a. Describe the 4 processes that make up pharmacokinetics and how these are relevant to our role as nurses (8 marks)
4b. Consider your field of practice, and the clinical concerns that may require the use of ONE of the identified medications. Choose one of the drugs below, briefly describe when it may be indicated and explain the mode of action, pharmacodynamics, of that drug. Make sure that you paraphrase this information so that you demonstrate your understanding. (7 marks in total - 2 for indication and 5 for mode of action).
