a. A sociological study, conducted in a department of a university, called for the estimation of the proportion of current students that come from single-parent homes. According to the most recent listing, the department currently has 625 students. A simple random sample of n = 70 students was selected from the listing. Upon completion of the study, it was found that 12 of the students sampled came from single-parent homes. i) Obtain an estimate of the population proportion, p, of current students that come from single-parent homes, and place a bound on the error of estimation. ii) How large of a sample should be taken in order to estimate p, given a bound on the error of estimation is B = 0.06 ? Assume that no prior information is available to estimate p. [3+4)
