Looking at spring supplier catalogs, they have found a potential spring. Spring properties Width 1.77 Thickness=0.55" Length = 55" Number of Leaves=4 Spring Steel properties: S, = 246ksi Sy = 228ksi E-30 E6 S; = 100ksi Determine: a. The spring stiffness (actual vs desired), and in your opinion, are they close enough? b. Will the chosen spring fail in YIELD? c. Will the chosen spring fail in FATIGUE? (for infinite number of cycles, is Omax < Smax--)
