A Switch Is Receiving Packets Based On Poisson Process At An Average Rate Of 7325 Packets Per Sec With An Average Packet 1 (205.26 KiB) Viewed 34 times
A switch is receiving packets based on Poisson process at an average rate of 7325 packets per sec with an average packet size of 1024 bytes distributed exponentially. The outgoing link of the switch is operating at 100 Mbps. The switch has 100 kB of memory to be used for input queuing. Determine a) The service time (usecs/packet) and the service rate in packets/sec. b) The input buffer or queue length in packets. c) The dropping probability. d) If the switch has 8 ports, and the available memory for queuing has to be shared equally among the ports for input queuing, determine the dropping probability. Note: Do not round off numbers, since switching occurs in the fabric at cell level.
