a) A The conductor and overall sheath diameter of a single core cable are 4 cm and 9 cm respectively. The insulation system comprises of two types of insulating material having permittivities of 6 and 4 respectively. If the maximum working stress for both dielectrics is 30 kV/cm (r.ms.). Calculate the following: i) The radial thickness of each insulation layer. [8 marks) ii) Permissible r.m.s. working voltage for the cable [7 marks) iii) The value of safe working voltage if the same cable was NOT graded, assuming overall diameter and maximum dielectric stress remain unchanged. [2 marks] iv) The safe working voltages if the working stress for the dielectrics is 30 kV/cm (r.m.s.) and 20 kV/cm (r.m.s.) respectively. [4 marks) b) Calculate the maximum and minimum stress. [4 marks] [Total: 25 marks)
