You are called to a 4 YO child post fall. The patient fell from
a play equipment, landing awkwardly on his left leg. On examination
you notice significant swelling and deformity around his left
ankle. The patient is laying supine, upset, unable to move due to
the pain.
You are deciding if you should give pain relief via the
intramuscular, intranasal or intravenous route.
Consider the routes of drug administration for this
patient. Discuss intramuscular, intranasal and intravenous
options, include the advantage and disadvantages of each of these
routes. Justify which one you will use for this
patient.
Do not focus on the drug you will administer. Focus
on the routes of administration.
