Aggregate demand for a product family is given in the table below for the 4 quarters of 2007. The inventory cost is $1 per unit per quarter. Demand that cannot be met is a lost sale. The cost of a lost sale is $20 per unit. Taking production and initial inventory into account, determine the ending inventory and shortfall each of the four quarters, compute the total cost of carrying inventory and lost sales for 2007 (i.e. do not include the cost of carrying the initial inventory). Quarter Demand Production Inventory Lost Sale Q4 06 100 Q1 07 800 900 ? ? Q2 07 600 800 ? ? Q3 07 900 600 ? ? Q4 107 900 700 ? ?
