Matt is riding a bicycle and attempts to get passed Sarah exactly at the post office. Sarah is constantly pedal cycling at the speed of 75rpm while Matt is initially riding at the speed of 15 km/h at the position shown in Fig. 1. Both have identical fixed gear sprocket system for their bicycle ac shnwn in Fin. 2 . HINT 1: A sprocket is a mechanical wheel with teeth, designed to rotate and engage with the chain links. A fixed gear bicycle sprocket system has 1 front and 1 rear sprockets but with different diameter. Pedal cycling speed refers to the rotational speed of the front sprocket where the pedal is attached. This front sprocket drives the rear sprocket which attached and turns along with the rear wheel. The rotation of the rear wheel directly contributes to the speed of the bicycle. HINT 2: For the sprocket system to work smoothly, the value of number of sprocket teeth divided by the sprocket radius for both rear and front sprocket must be the same. Determine: a) The constant speed of Sarah. b) The time required for Matt to overtake Sarah exactly at the post office. c) The speed of Matt when he reached the post office. d) The pedal cycling speed of Matt in rpm when he reached the post office.
