Caring for Clients With
Hypertension
Joe Schneider, a 42-year-old male
client with a history of type 2 diabetes, is newly diagnosed with
stage Il hypertension and presents to the clinic. The client smokes
two packs of cigarettes per day since he was 16 years of age. He
drinks three 12-oz beers per day. He is 6 feet tall and weighs 230
1b; BMI 31.2. The client has begun a regimen consisting of
chlorothiazide (Diuril) and captopril (Capoten). The client stated
that he had a nosebleed and presented to the emergency department
(ED) yesterday, and that is when it was discovered that he had high
blood pressure. His blood pressure was 200/100 mmHg in the ED.
After beginning the prescribed medications, the LPN/LVN notes that
the blood pressure is 160/80 mml-lg. The client asks if there are
any other things he could do to help lower his blood pressure.
2) Explain lifestyle changes the
nurse should recommend to help manage the
client's blood pressure.
3) what is one Nursing
diagnosis the client is at risk for?
4) please list some health
food choices for the client?
5) what teaching would you
incorporate to ensure Mr. Schneider is compliant with his
medication?
