Measuring and Understanding Violence
This chapter discusses the many reasons for interpersonal
violence. The risk factors such as family backgrounds, personal
characteristics, and socioeconomic status are also explored.
Sources of data on victimization are provided. You will be
introduced to the various sources of crime data (Uniform Crime
Reports (UCR), National Center for the Analysis of Violent Crime
(NCAVC), National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS), etc.).
What do you consider some of the strengths and weaknesses of
each source?
