You have been recruited as an international observer for
Democracy Watch Canada to advise the government of Polistan on
possible reforms in their quest to become a more democratic
regime. Insiders suggest that there are several developments
that need attention as these currently thwart the prospects for a
more democratic system of government. Three practices for
your review have been identified below.
2. An emergency law was put into place in 2018 in a
southern region of the country for reasons related to drug and
human trafficking. The law continues to be in place and has
been used by authorities to censor and intimidate journalists and
activists. The majority government recently extended the law
indefinitely citing its continued concerns over cross-border cartel
activity in the region.
