Question Two (20 Marks) 1. The reaction below is said to be in thermal equilibrium; CH4(∞)+H2O(θ)⇌CO(⊗)+3H2(θ)ΔH0=+210 kJ a. What does it mean when the reaction is in thermal equilibrium? Describe the enthalpy characteristic of the reaction. [4] b. For the reaction above (closed system), explain what would happen when; i. ΔG<0, ii. ΔG>0, iii. ΔG=0. 2. A container is divided into two equal compartments. One contains 3.0 molH(g) at 25∘C; the other contains 1.0 mol N2( g) at 25∘C. i. Calculate the Gibbs energy of mixing when the partition is removed. Assume perfect behaviour. ii. Calculate Kp, at equilibrium. [10]
