1. Find the average rate of change of the function f(x)=x2−3x+7 from x=240x=5. 2. Let f(x)=3x2−1. (i) Find the derivative f′(x) using the definition of derivative. (ii) Use (i) and find f′(2). (Hint: Plug x=2 in f′(x) ). (iii) What does the number f′(2) represent? (iv) Find the point (x,y)=(2,f(2)). Then find the equation of tangent line to the curve f(x)=3x2−1 at the point (x,y)=(2,f(2)). [Hint: For the equation of tangent line use the point slope formula y−y1=m(x−x1). The value of slope (m)=f′(2) is in part (iii)].
