Design the first distillation column in the acetic acid process using the following information provided. The distillation column operates at atmospheric pressure. The feed solution entering the column as saturated liquid. The flowrate and composition of the feed stream into the distillation column is provided in Table 1. Apply McCabe-Thiele method using reflux ratio of 1.5Rmin and assume pseudo-binary mixture of methyl iodide-water system. The distillation process has a design target of 98% methyl iodide in distillate and 2% methyl iodide in bottoms product. Vapour liquid equilibrium data is provided in Table 2. What you need to complete in this task: - Calculate the flowrates and compositions of feed, bottom product, and top product - Find the operating line equations for: q-line, stripping line, and rectifying line - Obtained the distillation column data: minimum reflux ratio, minimum number of stages, actual reflux ratio, theoretical number of stages required, feed stage location, plate to plate composition, and temperature of each plate.
