Q.3) A rigid beam CDE is supported by a steel bar A and a wood post B as shown below. A vertical load P is applied on the beam at E that resulted in a compressive axial stress of 16MPa in the wood post (A=250 mm2) and a tensile stress of 140MPa in the steel bar (A=3600 mm2). The pin connection at C is in single shear, whereas, that at D is in double shear. The allowable shear stress for the pins is 100MPa. Determine (a) Magnitude of the load P. (b) Required diameters for the pins at C and D.
