As in the figure below, a hole is to be punched out of a platehaving a shearing strength of 20 MPa. The compressive stress in thepunch is limited to 300MPa. (a) Compute the maximum thickness ofplate in which a hole 70 mm in diameter can be punched. (b) If theplate is 15 mm thick, determine the diameter of the smallest holethat can be punched.
