Question 3 (14 marks) A single-jet Pelton wheel develops 2.7MW when running at 550rpm. It is supplied with water from reservoir through a pipeline of length 1500 m and friction factor, f=0.007. The friction losses in the pipeline amount to 35 m and the coefficient of velocity of the nozzle is 0.98. The water level in the reservoir remains constant at 400 m above the nozzle. The overall efficiency of the turbine is 84%, the hydraulic efficiency is 94% (both based on the available head), and the ratio of bucket to jet speed is 0.45. Determine: 1. The diameters of the pipeline, nozzle and runner. 2. The deflecting angle of the buckets.
