The figure presented below shows a grooved rotating shaft with a ground surface finish that is subjected to a constant bending moment of M=150[Nm] and an axial load of P=10[kN]. In addition, there is a torsional load that fluctuates between −50<T<130[Nm]. It can be assumed that the torsional loading is in phase and acting at the same frequency as the rotation of the shaft. The radius of the fillet is r=3[ mm] and a reliability of 90% is desired. The shaft is made from steel having Sut=935[MPa] and Sy=880[MPa]. Find the safety factor for both the infinite fatigue life (n∞) and for 3×105 cycles (n3×105).
