The figure shows an output shaft with two V-belt pulleys. Pulley A is powered by a motor through a belt with the tensions shown. Power is transmitted through the shaft and passed to the belt at pulley B. Assume that the belt tension on the slack side at B is 15 percent of the tension on the tight side. A) Determine the tensions in the belt over pulley B, assuming the shaft runs at a constant speed. B) Find the magnitudes of the reaction forces in the bearing, assuming that the bearings act as simple supports. C) Construct the shear force and bending moment diagrams for the shaft. If necessary, make one series for the horizontal plane and one for the vertical plane. D) At the point of maximum bending moment, determine the bending stress and the shear stress in torsion. E) At the point of maximum bending moment, determine the principal stresses and the maximum shear stress.
