3. Water is pumped uphill from a reservoir to a standpipe 1.3 km away though pipework of diameter 55 mm as shown in Figure Q3, at a rate such that a 11-litre drum can be filled in 60 s. The pump inlet is 15 m below the surface of the reservoir and 534 m below the standpipe outlet. The losses in the standpipe can be accounted for by a loss factor of 9 applied to the upstream velocity. All losses in the pipework and the pump are negligible. (a) Apply the Bernoulli equation between the reservoir surface and the pump inlet to find the gauge pressure at the pump inlet. (4 marks) (b) Solve the gauge pressure at the pump outlet. (5 marks) (c) The pump is 72% efficient. Calculate the head lost due to friction within the pump. (5 marks) (d) Find the necessary power input to the pump. (6 marks)
