Rods are mass produced by a machine. The specification requiredthe length of each rod to be between 42.49 cm and 42.51 cm. Themachine produces rods whose lengths are normally distributed withstandard deviation 0.005 cm.
a) Determine the percentage of rods produced which would berejected if the machine is set so that the mean length of the rodsis 42.501 cm.
b) Determine the mean length the machine must be set so thatonly 3 rods in 1,000 will be of length less than 42.494 cm.
c) If there is a need to reduce the total percentage of rejects(oversize and undersize) what should be the mean setting of themachine?
You are required to show the normal distribution curve todetermine the answer for Part (a) and (b).
