A combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power plant is to be designed around a gas turbine engine with power output 52MW. The gas turbine engine has a mass flow rate of 150 kg/s, exhaust gas temperature 440∘C, and thermal efficiency 40%. A temperature difference of at least 40∘C must be maintained between turbine exhaust gas and water/steam everywhere in the heat recovery steam generator (HRSG). Assume that the steam turbine and feedwater pump are isentropic, that steam leaves the turbine at 90% quality, and that water enters the pump as saturated liquid at 50∘C. (a) Draw a T−s diagram for the steam cycle. Draw a separate graph showing temperatures of water/steam and gas in the HRSG as a function of cumulative heat transfer. [4] (b) Determine the water/steam pressure in the HRSG and the water/steam temperatures at the pinch point and at the HRSG exit. [6] (c) Determine the mass flow rate of water. [4] (d) Consider the section of the HRSG in which water is saturated. Treating this section as a standalone heat exchanger, determine its effectiveness. [6]
