Use matrix notation for all the answers. Note: The two end-supports are fixed supports. The floating member (u4) can only move horizontally and can not rotate, twist or deform. (a) Provide the generic equation for a single spring element with nodes Un&Un+1 and spring stiffness kn. (2 marks) (b) For each of the five spring elements pictured above, provide the individual element equation using the naming convention and numbering shown in the figure. (3 marks) (c) Assemble the entire equation system. (3 marks) (d) Apply the boundary conditions as pictured above and simplify the equation system as far as possible.
