In Chapter 2, Principles of Interpersonal Communication, PeterCardon states that a "five-year study of the workplace showed that95% of professionals think they're self-aware, yet only 10 to 15percent are" (p. 33). Assuming this is true, what are theconsequences of this widespread lack of self-awareness in theworkplace? Why is it so important to be self-aware? Discuss anexample of a time at work when either you or a colleague showed alack of self-awareness. What did you learn from this incident?
In addition, let's discuss the importance of emotionalintelligence, also known as EQ. The four components of EQ are asfollows.
Rate yourself on a scale of 1-10, with 1 being the lowest and 10being the highest, on each of these four components of EQ.Substantiate your self-evaluation with examples from your own lifeexperiences, especially those in the workplace.
