When doing a tensile test and using a contact extensometer, why
is it necessary to make sure the extensometer is properly closed
and what will happen if it isn't? Also, why is it necessary to
'zero' the extensometer and force reading at the start of the test?
Please also explain how the initial distance between the gripping
points of the extensometer would affect the determination of
E(modulus of elasticity).
