2. A new road section is soon to be opened for traffic in the beginning of 22. This road is an arterial road with 2 lane I way. This road is designed to serve the traffic for 18 years. The pavement will be done in two stages. Stage 1 is 7 years and Stage II is the rest. At the end of stage 1, it is assumed that the pavement will have 40% remaining capacity. The traffic survey has been conducted in 2014 and give the data as follows: Passenger Car (E = 0.0004) 3200 Veh Big Bus (E = 0.3006) 170 Veh Light Truck and Bus (E = 0.2174) 40 Veh Heavy Truck (E = 5.0264) 75 Veh 3 Axel Heavy Truck (E = 2.7416) 27 Veh The predicted traffic growth rates during construction are: Light Vehicle (5 ton): 5.5% Heavy Vehicle (>5 ton): 4.5% and during its lifetime are: Light Vehicle (<5 ton): 7.3% Heavy Vehicle >5 ton): 6.9% The DCP test was conducted to estimate the strength of the subgrade. The DCP results have been converted to CBR for 27 locations, which are: Use graphic 90% method: 2.25% 2.27% 2.28% 2.25% 2.29% 2.31% 2.35% 2.37% 2.81% 2.28% 2.23% 2.28% 2.21% 2.38% 2.35% 2.34% 2.37% 2.32% 2.20% 2.21% 2.61% 2.85% 2.34% 2.85% 2.17% 2.18% 2.77% The material used for each pavement layers are as follow: Surface Laston MS-744; a = 0,40 Crushed stone CBR 100%; a = 0.14 : Sirtu / Pitrun CBR 80%; a = 0,13 Average slope = 5% and Rainfall 1000 mm'year. Please make assumption if any other data needed. Use Nomogram No.1. Question: a. Design flexible pavement with Component Analysis Method. b. Give three alternatives to maximize each layer. c. Skatch the layer of three alternative. d. Which one would you choose? Explain why Base Sub Base a
