4. 30 % A rapid sand filter plant is to produce a nominal flow of 43,500 mº/day. The nominal filtration rate is 125 m/day and is not to exceed 160 m/day with one filter being backwashed nor 180 m/day with one filter being backwashed and another out of service. The filter medium is sand with an effective size of 0.55, a uniformity coefficient of 1.4, a depth of 1 m and specific gravity of 2.65 Viscosity at 30 °C is 0.8004 centipoises, Posrosity = 0.45. a. Determine the total filter area, the number of units required to provide optimal operating conditions, and the individual filter area. The number of units should not exceed 8 and the area per unit should not be more than 50m2 b. Determine the terminal velocity, the fluidization velocity, and the maximum abraision velocity @20°C. If the operating temperature is to be @ 30°C then what will be the maximum abraision velocity C. The filters are each washed once per 24-h period. The backwash process involves 10 min. Determine the quantity of backwash water consumed per day and the backwash storage capacity d. Determine the net water filtered per day if the filter to waste is for five minutes. e In the event that you want to have a net product of 43,500 m3/day, what would be the quantity of water that you need to start with?
