An independent-samples t test and getting ready for a date: Inan example we sometimes use in our statistics classes, severalsemesters’ worth of male and female students were asked how long,in minutes, they spend getting ready for a date. The data reportedbelow reflect the actual means and the approximate standarddeviations for the actual data from 142 students. Men: 28, 35, 52,14 Women: 30, 82, 53, 61.
1. Calculate the appropriate measure of effect size.
2. Based on Cohen’s conventions, is this a small, medium, orlarge effect size?
3. Why is it useful to have this information in addition to theresults of a hypothesis test?
