Okay everyone! Last discussion topic for the semester and it isnot an easy one. After you look through the materials, one of thepoints I try an emphasize is that the Vietnam War was generallypopular with the public until AFTER the Tet Offensive in 1968,despite what anyone tells you today. As the war became moreunpopular with the public, the principle source of animus againstthe War was the Draft, the notion that no matter how you felt, youcould be drafted, inducted and force to go fight. Below is a shortvideo that should give you a quick introduction and understandingas to how the Draft itself worked.

Now that you have watched and hopefully have a betterunderstanding of the Draft, how it worked, the historical contextof the time, and the ways that opposition to the War was tied toopposition to the Draft, I want you wrangle the idea around some,in other words, what do YOU think. In country like the UnitedStates, dedicated principally to the idea that you should beable to do whatever you want with your life, do you have shouldsociety and the state possess the ability to compel you intomilitary service even if you object? Or, looking at it from thereverse angle, should you be able to avoid responsibility fordefending the country where you are able to do what you please, that is to say, do you have civic duties that no one should be ableto avoid?
