One of the core themes in this course has been that the mind actively constructs a person's reality (for those of you who took PSYC 1020 in the spring you have already been introduced to this theme). In other words, the way people think about a situation powerfully affects their responses to that situation and leads to different experiences or outcomes. Discuss this idea by considering TWO of your own personal examples (or an example from the media) of how the mind shapes reality. While your examples are personal, they must also correspond to the content from the modules in this course, and you must have evidence from the modules to support your answer. For each example, be sure to describe clearly how or why your different ways of thinking (e.g., different goals, expectations, interpretations, beliefs, etc.) would lead to specific differences in your experience or outcome. For this discussion you should focus on the Social and Personality Pillar (Module 4 Personality and Module 5 Social Psychology) and the Mental and Physical Health Pillar (Module 6 Stress and Health, and Module 7 Psychological disorders if you want to read ahead). Your examples should come from each of the two pillars, and each of your examples should come from different Modules. You must provide specific evidence from the pillars to support your answer (including the lectures, text readings, and prep guides..... and cite your sources!). Your post should be approximately 800 words double spaced (we recommend you write the discussion in word or another word processing app and then copy/paste to the discussion board - you may have to fix some formatting after doing this, especially your citations and references). +
