(a) Consider a population of iteroparous individuals and an iteroparous mutant that arises which has half as many offspring. This mutation causes the offspring have a higher juvenile survival probability (say 50% higher than that of the normal iteroparous state). What must this mutant's adult survival rate (Pm) be for the mutant to experience reproduction equal to the wildtype iteroparous individuals? Express bm in terms of bi, Pi and Ci. (b) Consider a population of iteroparous individuals and an iteroparous mutant that arises which has smaller offspring. This mutation causes the adults to have a survival rate 50% higher than the usual value, but the offspring have a lower juvenile survival probability (say 30% of the normal iteroparous state). What must this mutant's birth rate (bm) be for the mutant to experience reproduction equal to the iteroparous individuals? Express bm in terms of bi, Pi and Ci.
