Consider the Fischer projection of D-lyxose below: HO HO H H OH OH D-Lyxose a) D-Lyxose can be converted by Kiliani-Fischer into a mixture of aldohexoses. One of the aldohexoses yields an optically inactive aldaric acid when oxidized with warm HNO3 Draw the structure of this aldaric acid. (2 marks) b) D-Lyxose can be converted to a ketose via an enediol under the basic condition of Tollen's reagent. Draw the Fischer projections of the ketose and the enediol. (4 marks)
