I am stuck on question 4.c. Please provide full explanation onthe answer so that I understand fully.
Qu. 4 Starting from the velocity potential function for linear waves, show that the amplitude of the horizontal and vertical water particle displacements beneath a linear H sinh k( y+ d) H cosh k(y+ d) 2 sinh kd and respectively. Show that water 2 sinh kd particle orbits are circular in deep water and elliptical in shallow water. wave are (a) (b) (c) Calculate the horizontal and vertical displacement of a water particle from its mean position at 3m and 9m below SWL for T = 10s, H = 3m in water depth 12m. (Ans. 2.1m, 1.1m; 1.8m, 0.34m) Calculate maximum water particle displacement at 7.5m below SWL for T = 10s and H= 3.13m in infinitely deep water. (Ans 1.15m) For (b), calculate the depth below SWL where particle displacements are less than 5% of the near-surface particle displacements. (Ans. 74m)
