Q.1. A 600mm long rod, 20mm in diameter undergoes a tensile force of 60KN. Find stress, strain and the elongation. Take YM of steel as 400KN/mm². Q.2. A tape of cross section 20mm X 1.75mm is 35m long. It is used to measure a straight line and finds its value to be 170m. During the measurement the force applied is 160N . Find the actual length of the line? Take YM - 250KN/mm² Q.3. A hollow tube made up of a material whose yield stress is 150N/mm2 is subjected to a compressive load of 170KN. The factor of safety is 1.35. The external diameter of the tube is 105mm. find its internal diameter. FOS= Ultimate stress/ Working Stress. Q.4. A rod of length 300mm and diameter 30mm is tested on a UTM. Under a load of 90KN it undergoes an elongation of 0.35mm. The load at elastic limit is 107KN. The maximum load is 140 KN. The total elongation at fracture is 36mm and diameter is 20mm. Find (i) Stress at elastic limit (ii) YM- (III) Percentage elongation (iv) Percentage reduction in area- (v) Ultimate tensile stress.- Q.5. A rod of diameter 35mm and length 600mm is subjected to a load of 80KN. Find G and K when E is 2X 10^5 N/mm^2. Also find longitudinal stress and linear strain given that poisson's ratio is 0.37.
