QUESTION 3 [15] A pipeline (Figure 3) of 20 km long delivers water from an impounding reservoir A to a service reservoir
QUESTION 3 [15] A pipeline (Figure 3) of 20 km long delivers water from an impounding reservoir A to a service reservoir D. The minimum difference in water level between the reservoirs is 135 m. The maximum flow rate to the service reservoir is required. The pipe with roughness k,-0.03 mm is 400 mm in diameter. Assume the kinematic viscosity-1 x 10 m³/s and g -9.81 m/s². The reservoir levels stay constant and the velocities in the reservoirs are insignificantly small. Ignore the secondary losses at A (entrance) and D (exit), but take into account the half closed valve at B with a secondary loss coefficient of K - 20. (a) Determine the flow rate and the depth of the cutting for the pipe at C to ensure that the pressure head is not less than 3 m (8) (b) Determine a new diameter between A and C if the excavation at C must not be more than 1 m, and the flow remains unchanged as calculated in (a). ₁ -2log ASSESSOR 3.7D Central University of Technology, Free State O 1180m H-SALO Ⓒ ghalamank MODERATOR 1100 m Figure 3: Gravitation system Lac 13,5 km 1p 20,0 km 115)
