High-pressure hot water and low-pressure cold water enter the heat exchanger in figure 2.1 at states 1 and 3 respectively (see table 2.1 for details) and both leave the heat exchanger as saturated liquids. After leaving the heat exchanger, the high-pressure water is expanded through a throttling valve to the cold-water stream's pressure, and finally, the two streams are combined in the mixing chamber, exiting at state 6.
