The lighting system of an open plan office is designed by an engineer. The dimension of the office is 10m x 12m x 3 m. The working plane is 0.8 m high. Twin-tube fluorescent light fitting is proposed and the lumen output of each lamp is 4500 lm. The design lux level is 500 lux. The photometric data of the proposed luminaire is as follows: Utilisation Factors - UF Reflectances CWF 1.0 0.6 0.2 0.60 0.5 0.2 0.57 0.3 0.2 0.53 (i) (ii) 0.8 0.8 0.8 Room index 2.0 3.0 4.0 0.69 0.73 0.75 0.67 0.71 0.74 0.64 0.69 0.71 5.0 0.76 0.75 0.73 Given: • Maintenance factor, MF, is 0.85. • Reflectances of ceiling, wall and floor are 0.8, 0.6 and 0.2 respectively. • Both maximum SHR for axial and transverse spacings are 1.8. Calculate the suitable number of luminaires required. Sketch the lighting layout plan with indication of relevant (5 marks) dimensions. (5 marks) (5 marks) (iii) Verify the space-to-height ratio and comment on its value. (iv) Find the revised average illuminance on the working plane, based on your results in part (b)(i). (5 marks)
