The owner of an isolated single phase rural power system, comprising a generator, a transmission line and a load, isconcerned with losses and voltage drop across the transmissionline. You have been employed as a consultant to suggest potentialsolutions for these problems. A colleague has recommended the useof a 1:20 step-up transformer and a 20:1 step-down transformer asshown in Figure 1. The impedance of the transmission line is 15+j50Ω, the impedance of the load is 1020 and thetransformer reactances are 0.15pu and 0.1pu at rated power of 10kVAas shown in Figure 1. The base values for this system are chosen tobe 480V and 10kVA at the generator.
a) Find the base voltage, current, impedance, and apparent powerat every point in the power system in Figure1.
b) Convert this system to its per-unit equivalent circuit.
c) Find the power supplied to the load in this system inWatts.
d) Find the power lost in the transmission line in Watts.
e) Briefly descibe what other measures could be taken to reducevoltage drop and losses across the transmission line and why.
