The design of the Apollo 11 lunar excursion module was aninteresting control problem. The control system for such avehicle is shown in the figure. The vehicle damping is negligibleand the position is controlled by gas jets. The torque, in firstapproximation, will be considered proportional to the signal V(s),so that T(s) = K2 V(s). The designer can select the gain of thecircuit so as to provide adequate damping. A damping coefficient of0.5 (approximate phase margin of 500) and a settling time of lessthan 2 s are required. Determine a compensator Gc(s) perfeedforward network using root locus methods.
