Question 2 a.) A retaining wall, 5 m high supports granular backfill with a horizontal surface and a clay deposit 3.0 m
Question 2 a.) A retaining wall, 5 m high supports granular backfill with a horizontal surface and a clay deposit 3.0 m below the top of the wall. The unit weight of the backfill is 18 kN/m² and the angle of internal friction is = 36' with c' = 0 kN/m². The unit weight of the clay is 22 kN/m' and the angle of internal friction is '= 28with c = 10 kN.m². Assuming the wall to be smooth and the water table lies below the base of the wall determine the total active thrust and its point of application
