SE 251 - Exercise (9) Staff points were chosen to be 50m apart along the ground surface of a proposed roadway. RLs of observed centerline points are as given in the table below: Hz. Distance (m) 0 50 100 150 200 250 300 350 400 Ground Level (m) 620.0 622.5 621.0 623.0 6215 620.5 619,0 620.0 622.0 The highway engineer proposed the following data for the formation level to be constructed: Road level at the starting point = 625.00m, sloping downwards to the other end with 0.6% rate. Road width – 30m, with side slopes 2:1 all through. Required: i) Use suitable scales for horizontal distances and reduced levels to plot the longitudinal section of the existing ground surface. ii) Plot the proposed centerline of the road on the same plot of the existing ground surface plot. Mark the cut and fill areas on the longitudinal Section iii) Determine the height of cut or fill at each staff point on the centerline. iv) Compute the cross-sectional arca at each section. v) Compute the total volume of cut and fill for the project.
