For this discussion board, we will continue our review of cell evolution by discussing the evolution of viruses. There are several models for how viruses evolved: 1) Virus-First Hypothesis: Viruses came before cells and represent an early branch in the evolution of cells. 2) Escape Hypothesis: Viruses came from cellular DNA that was able to exit the cell and travel between cells, becoming infectious agents. 3) Reduction Hypothesis: Viruses evolved from free-living ancestors that became reduced to parasites.
