1. Answer the following questions. (35%) (a) Describe how to operate a heat engine to achieve higher efficiency. (b) Use the internal energy to quantitatively express (i) the molar heat capacity, (ii) the internal pressure, and (iii) the heat flow of a free expansion process. (c) For H₂O at 1 atm, arrange the order of the values of Com's at 100K(CP,m, 100k), 300K(Cp,m,300k), 500 K(CP,m,500k), and 1000 K(CP,m,1000K). Explain the differences among these Cp,m's. (d) For a Carnot cycle, the following relation is valid: & dq/T = 9H/TH + qc/Tc = 0. According to this quantitative relation and the fact that an arbitrary reversible cycle can be divided into an infinite number of infinitesimal Carnot cycles, explain why the entropy S is a statement function.
