1. The data below lists the ages of applicants who were successful in winning promotion. Assume that the same is a simple random sample. 33, 36, 37, 38, 38, 39, 42, 42, 43, 43, 44, 44, 44, 45, 45, 45, 45, 46, 46, 47, 47, 48, 48, 49, 49, 51, 51, 52, 54 a. Construct a 95% confidence interval estimate of the mean age of all such successful people. Think: Do you use a z or t distribution? b. Change the last age from 54 years to 540 years. This value is not realistic, but such an error can easily occur during a data entry process. Compute a 95% confidence interval including this change. Does the confidence interval change much? c. Are confidence interval limits sensitive to outliers? How should you handle ANY outliers when they are found in sample data sets that will be used for the construction of confidence intervals?
