Question 1: A flat plate of uniform thickness equal to 0.2 cm, is in the shape of a right-angled triangle. The face of the plate is in the xy plane (i.e. the thickness of the plate is perpendicular to the xy plane). The corners of the plate face are at the points (0,0), (2,0) and (2,1) in the xy plane. The plate is made of gold which has a density of 19.3 g/cm3 and which the jeweler can buy for $74 per gram.
a) How much will the gold for the plate cost the jeweler?
b) What are the x and y coordinates of the centre of mass of the plate?
